on the surface, this fashion show was an unprecedented collaboration of 100+ models, muas, hairstylists, photographers, videographers, and stylists descending on the tacoma armory to benefit the chaya movement, a local bipoc nonprofit which lost multiple federal grants to the trump administrations purge of anything related to dei initiatives. dig deeper, and it was an artistic tour-de-force rooted in the immigrant experience, making home between cultures, and resiliently overcoming obstacle after obstacle. i was honored to serve as photography lead for this show, managing a team of 9 photographers, a mix of recent grads, established creatives, and nationally represented talent. amidst the chaos I took time to shoot each look backstage before the models hit the runway. here are a few of my favorite detail shots capturing the electric calm behind the curtain before the lights come up.
